Gazprom: Austrian accident shows need to diversify gas supply routes

MOSCOW, Dec 14 (PRIME) -- A recent explosion at Austria’s Baumgarten gas hub showed a necessity to diversify gas supply routes to enhance the E.U.’s energy security, Sergei Komlev, director of Gazprom Export’s department for structuring contracts and pricing, said on Thursday.

“An explosion in Baumgarten clearly showed that the more routes for transportation of natural gas via pipelines to Europe are, the more reliable the continent’s energy security is,” he said.

“Infrastructure restrictions currently limit our supplies to Europe,” he added.

Transit supplies to Italy, Slovenia, and Hungary were disrupted because of the accident and fully resumed on Wednesday.
